Coimbatore secures 96.66% overall pass percentage, drops to 13th in State ranking

Coimbatore district slipped from its previous fourth-place State ranking to 13th after recording a pass percentage of 96.66% in the Class 12 State Board examination results released by the School Education Department on May 8, 2026 (Friday).

This is a decrease from 97.48% in 2024–2025 and 96.97% in 2023–2024. A total of 35,448 students — 16,235 boys and 19,213 girls— appeared for the examination in Coimbatore. Of these, 34,264 students passed, including 15,531 boys and 18,733 girls. The pass percentage for boys was 95.66% and for girls 97.50%. Out of 365 schools in the district, 158 achieved a 100% pass rate.

Tiruppur district dropped from third place in the State to 11th, recording an overall pass percentage of 97.03%. This is a decrease from the 97.53% pass rate achieved in the 2024-2025 academic year. In the 2026 exams, 26,166 students appeared in Tiruppur, comprising 11,797 boys and 14,369 girls. A total of 25,388 students passed, including 11,307 boys and 14,081 girls.

The pass percentage for boys in Tiruppur was 95.85% and girls 98.00%. Out of 218 schools in the district, 113 recorded a 100% pass rate.

Both districts exceeded the 2026 State average pass percentage of 95.20%. In both districts, female students outperformed male students by margins of 1.84% in Coimbatore and 2.15% in Tiruppur.

A total of 27 prisoners lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison appeared for the Class 12 public examination and all of them passed.
