127 temples consecrated in Kanniyakumari district in DMK tenure, says Sekarbabu

Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister P. K. Sekarbabu on Friday said that 127 temples under the HR&CE Department have been consecrated so far in Kanniyakumari district during the current tenure, while addressing the media in Suchindram.

He said that “After a long time, the consecration of Adikesava Perumal Temple in Thiruvattar was conducted under the present DMK government. Similarly, after a minor fire accident in Bagavathi Amman temple in Mandaikadu, the temple was renovated and consecration was conducted.”

He added that a total of ₹1.85 crore has been spent on constructing protective sheds for the 20 temple cars of 12 temples of the district. Additionally, eight temple tanks (theppakulam) of six temples in the district have been renovated at a cost of ₹2.19 crore.

He noted that due to the unexpected collapse of the sidewall of the temple tank of Suchindram temple, an estimate has been sent to the commissioner for approval to issue a retender.

He stated that a devotees resting room is currently being constructed in Suchindram at a cost of ₹2.50 crore Suchindram. “The Eraniel fort restoration project , initially planned at ₹3 crore has received an additional allocation of ₹8 crore, ensuring that the heritage structure remains unchanged. Steps are being taken to reopen the fort soon,” he said.

Mr. Sekarbabu later visited Sri Madhusoodhana Perumal Temple at Parakkai and offered prayers. He urged the officials to expedite the consecration works and instructed them to speed up the ongoing renovation efforts.
