Three persons who were in illegal possession of painkiller tablets with the intention of selling them as drugs were arrested by the police in Erode on Tuesday (January 21, 2026).
Based on specific information that tablets and syringes were being kept for sale near the Central Bus Stand, personnel from the Erode Town police station conducted a special check in the bus stand area. During the inspection, three youths who were found behaving suspiciously were detained and searched. They were identified as R. Thirulogan of Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, S. Kavin Kumar (21) of Kumarapalayam, and V. Dhanush (21), also of Kumarapalayam.
During the search, the police seized 15 Tapentadol tablets (100 mg each) worth ₹700, along with syringes, from their possession. Tapentadol is a potent painkiller prescribed for post-surgical treatment but is often misused by dissolving the tablets in water and injecting the solution. The accused were taken to the police station, a case was registered, and they were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
In a press release, Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha said that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in similar offences.
