Patriotic fervour marked the 80th Independence Day celebrations organised at Pudukottai, Perambalur, Ariyalur and Karur districts on Saturday.
Pudukottai Collector M. Aruna hoisted the national flag at the celebration organised by the district administration at the Armed Reserve ground in Pudukottai. The Collector honoured the legal heirs of freedom fighters by presenting each one of them with a shawl.Â
Ms. Aruna distributed welfare assistance given through various government departments to the tune of ₹22.12 lakh to 33 beneficiaries and gave away appreciation certificates to 269 employees of various government departments. Cultural programmes were presented by students of various schools. Superintendent of Police Ravindra Kumar Gupta participated, an official release said.
District Collector C. Muthukumaran hoisted the tricolour and took the salute at the guard of honour presented by the district police at the District Sports Stadium. Besides honouring freedom fighters with shawls, Mr. Muthukumaran distributed welfare assistance worth ₹1.23 crore to 38 beneficiaries. He presented commendation certificates to 26 police personnel and 77 employees of various government departments for meritorious service. Students of various schools presented a cultural pageant. Superintendent of Police D.N. Hari Kiran Prasad accompanied the Collector.
In Perambalur, the Independence Day celebration organised by the district administration was held at the Dr. MGR Sports Stadium. Perambalur Collector Sharanya Ari hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the ceremonial parade. The Collector honoured the legal heirs of the freedom fighters and distributed welfare assistance to the tune of ₹1.95 crore given through various government departments to 93 beneficiaries. Superintendent of Police V. Lalith Kumar and officials from various government departments participated. Later, the Collector paid floral tributes to the portraits of freedom fighters and Tamil scholars of Perambalur district at the Collectorate, an official release said.
In Ariyalur, Collector N. Mirunalini hoisted the national flag. The Collector distributed welfare assistance totalling ₹3.13 crore given through various government departments to 51 beneficiaries.Â
The Collector gave away appreciation certificates to 240 government employees and 45 police personnel on the occasion. Students of various schools presented cultural programmes. Superintendent of Police S. Selvakumar participated, an official release said.Â
