Organs of 16-year-old boy donated in Ramanathapuram

A 16-year-old brain-dead boy’s organs were harvested by doctors of Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital on Sunday.  

According to an official press release, the grade XII student from Melayakudi near Paramakudi met with a road accident and was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. He was declared brain dead by doctors, and following his parents’ consent, his organs were harvested on Sunday.  

The liver was transported to Apollo Specialty Hospitals, Tiruchi, one of the kidneys to Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, another kidney to a hospital in Melmaruvathur, eyes to Ramanathapuram Government Hospital and skin to Grace Kennett Hospital, Madurai.  

In accordance with the State government’s directives, the deceased was accorded State honours by the hospital and the district administration before his body was handed over to his relatives.
