The People’s Government is pursuing a holistic approach to ensure sustainable development of urban, peri-urban and rural areas in Telangana to improve livelihoods and living standards of people across the State, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Speaking to reporters in Madhira of Khammam district on Tuesday, Mr. Vikramarka said Telangana aims to achieve a three-trillion-dollar economy to become globally competitive as per the Vision 2047. For this, Congress candidates must be elected in the ensuing municipal elections to achieve the ambitious goal, he added.
He called upon the rank and file of the Congress to collectively strive to ensure the victory of Congress candidates in the civic polls. He exhorted party cadres to explain about the multifarious welfare and development programmes undertaken by the Congress government over the last two years.
He noted that interest-free loans worth ₹6,000 crore have been distributed to women through the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) for economic empowerment of women in urban areas.
He said, “Telangana is developing as a modern urban State with employment opportunities increasing significantly. The State government has formulated the CURE, PURE and RARE policy for developing urban, peri-urban and rural agriculture economies respectively.”
Outside Hyderabad, municipalities have been divided into multiple clusters for comprehensive development, he said, explaining about the sustainable regional development strategy.
He elaborated on the Rural Agri-Regional Economy (RARE) saying the model envisages setting up of agriculture-based allied industries, creating employment and income opportunities in villages located near municipalities.
Earlier in the day, the Deputy CM distributed tricycles to differently-abled persons and laid the foundation stone for flood mitigation works in Madhira municipality at an estimated cost of ₹140 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the State government has spent ₹100 crore for the welfare of differently-abled persons over the last two years.
