District Collector AS Dinesh Kumar announced that elaborate arrangements are being made for the Araku Utsav – ‘Chali’, as part of the ongoing ‘Visakha Utsav’, from January 29 to February 1. The Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the Utsav on Thursday, at 12 p.m..
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Mr Dinesh Kumar said that the main objective of the festival is to showcase the rich tribal culture and tourist attractions of Araku to the world.
Briefing about the CM’s visit, the Collector said that the Chief Minister will visit Chompi village and review the implementation of the homestay policy. Mr. Naidu will then interact with tribal families and discuss tourist accommodation in tribal homes and their hospitality, he said.
Speaking about ‘Chali’, Mr Dinesh Kumar said that adventure sport activities such as paragliding and paramotoring have been organised at Madagada. Special attractions such as helicopter rides and hot air balloon rides will also be facilitated.
Trekking activities will be held in Galikonda and Sunkarametta areas. A 5K run, titled the Araku Marathon, will be conducted on January 31. A grand carnival featuring traditional dances and art forms of various tribal communities from across the country is also being organised. Cultural programmes will be held every evening, including a live concert by noted singer Sunitha. As part of the closing celebrations on February 1, a live performance by noted music director S.S. Thaman will be held, along with a spectacular drone show, he concluded.
