The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested a man in connection with a terror conspiracy case, officials said on Tuesday (January 27, 2026).
The accused, Faizan Shaikh, a native of Dundawala in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district and currently residing at Charpul in Gujarat’s Navsari district, was arrested on Sunday (January 25, 2026). Officials said he had allegedly been radicalised by the ideologies of terror groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Al-Qaeda.
According to the ATS, Shaikh had illegally procured a weapon and ammunition with the intention of targeting a specific group of individuals in order to spread fear and terror. Further details of the alleged conspiracy were not disclosed.
The arrest comes months after the Gujarat ATS, in November last year, apprehended three persons, including a doctor, for their alleged involvement in a plot to carry out a major terrorist attack using weapons and chemical substances.
One of the accused in that case, Dr. Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed from Telangana, was allegedly preparing ricin — a highly toxic substance derived from castor beans — for use in the planned attack. The other two accused, both from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested for allegedly supplying weapons to him, officials had said earlier.
