Christmas was celebrated with traditional gaiety and religious fervour at churches across the city on December 25.
St. Philomena’s Church, St. Bartholomew’s Church, Hardwicke Church, and Wesley Cathedral witnessed many devotees gather to offer prayers and catch a glimpse of infant Jesus in his crib. Most churches in the city and those on the outskirts were illuminated on Christmas Day.
At St. Philomena’s Church, many attended midnight mass, apart from tourists and persons from different faiths pouring in to experience the festive vibes at the heritage structure, which was constructed in 1936.
In the run up to the festival last week, the Bishop of Mysuru, Francis Serrao S.J., had conducted special prayers to herald Christmas at the Mysuru Central Prison. He had addressed the inmates and spread a message of love, empathy and compassion. This was followed by cultural programmes.
