The Greater Chennai City Police arrested 105 persons and registered 57 cases in a two-day special drive against narcotic substances.
The police said that during the operation, they seized 26 kg of ganja, 1,888 painkiller tablets, cash, and four two-wheelers.
The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU), along with officers and personnel from all 12 police districts and four zonal Prohibition Enforcement Wings, has intensified action against drug-related offences across the city. Efforts have also been under way to identify and arrest offenders and their network links.
The special drive against drugs was conducted on January 31 and February 1 by ANIU teams, local police personnel, and the four zonal Prohibition Enforcement units.
Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun warned that the police will continue strict surveillance and conduct vehicle checks, intensive patrols, and special raids to arrest those involved in smuggling, stocking, and selling ganja, narcotics, and tobacco products such as gutka and mava, and that stringent legal action will be taken against those involved in such offences.
