Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan on Monday said the party has no hesitation in placing before the public the details of the amount collected for the C.V. Dhanaraj martyr’s fund in Payyannur. He also described V. Kunhikrishnan, former district committee member, who raised the allegations, as a “closed chapter”.
Earlier, CPI(M) Kannur district secretary K.K. Ragesh too had announced that details of the fund would be made public. Allegations were raised that irregularities had been committed in the Dhanaraj fund and election-related funds, allegedly involving Payyannur MLA T.I. Madhusoodanan.
The party has decided to disclose the fund accounts at a press conference scheduled for February 6, following a directive from the State leadership to clear doubts among party cadres.
Mr. Kunhikrishnan, who had earlier levelled allegations related to fund misappropriation, was expelled from the CPI(M). The party defended its action by saying that he had spread false information and his stance had put it on the defensive.
Meanwhile, the disciplinary action against Mr. Kunhikrishnan has triggered strong resentment among a section of party workers in Payyannur, even as another section has come out in support of the action taken against him.
