The names of about 3.31 lakh voters have been removed from the draft electoral rolls in Tiruchi district following the completion of the enumeration carried out under the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls ordered by the Election Commission.
The SIR was taken up to ensure accuracy of the electoral rolls by identifying the absent, shifted, or dead voters and duplicate entries (ASDD). Enumeration forms were distributed to voters since November 4 and the names of all those who had submitted the filled-in forms were retained in the rolls.
As many as 3,31,787 enumeration forms were identified as irretrievable and the names of those voters have been removed from the electoral rolls. These include 44,276 absent voters, 1,60,831 persons who had migrated, 1,16,756 dead voters, 9,805 double entries, and 119 others, District Election Officer and Collector V. Saravanan said in a press release.
As per the draft electoral rolls released by Mr. Saravanan, the district had 20,37,180 voters with 10,46,664 women, 9,90,215 men and 301 others as on December 19. Prior to the enumeration, the district had 23,68,967 voters.
The Srirangam Assembly constituency continues to remain the largest in the district in terms of voter strength with 2,71,539 electors and Thuraiyur (Reserved) is the smallest with 2,02,720 voters. Women outnumber men in all nine Assembly constituencies in the district as earlier.
Copies of the electoral rolls will be kept at all offices of Electoral Registration Officers/Revenue Divisional Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers Taluk Office for electors to verify their entries. The rolls would be available with the BLOs concerned too. Voters can verify the rolls through the voters service portal https://voters.eci.gov.in/ or https://tiruchirappalli.nic.in/ or the ECINET mobile App.
Urging electors to verify whether their names have been included in the draft rolls, Mr. Saravanan said eligible voters, if their names had been left out, can apply for inclusion or corrections by submitting Form 6 or Form 8 to the Booth Level Officers. They can apply online at https://voters.eci.gov.in/ or the ECINET App.
“I urge the voters to remain vigilant and check the draft rolls to verify whether their names have been included. Those who find their names missing have time till January 18 to apply for inclusion,” he said.
Special camps will be held in all polling stations in the district from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 20 and 21 for receiving the applications for inclusions and corrections with required documentary proof, he said.
Persons who attain the age of 18 on January 1, 2026, are eligible for inclusions.
As per the ECI guidelines, booth agents of recognised political parties can collect and submit to the BLOs up to 10 forms for inclusions and deletions or corrections a day.
Mr. Saravanan said the number of polling stations in the district had been increased to 2,785 from 2,543 as per the latest ECI norms.
