About 53,000 voters, whose names have been included in the draft electoral rolls in Tiruchi district, would be required to submit supporting documents as their details have not been matched with the previous Special Intensive Revision (SIR) data.

Under the ongoing SIR 2026, voters were required to provide details of their names or those of their relatives in the previous SIR. However, all those who had submitted the filled-in enumeration forms have been retained in the draft electoral rolls. Voters whose data could not be matched with the previous SIR are now asked to provide supporting documents.

According to district administration, of the 20.37 lakh voters in the draft electoral rolls, details of 7,77,733 voters have been matched directly with the previous SIR. Details of about 12.06 lakh voters have been matched with that of their blood relatives by way of progeny mapping, leaving nearly 53,146 “unmatched” voters.

These voters were being issued notices to appear before the designated officers at the polling stations on the specified dates and provide copies of any one of the 13 documents notified by the Election Commission. The system generated notices are being served to the voters concerned, officials said.

District Election Officer and Collector V. Saravanan told The Hindu that senior citizens and persons with disabilities, who have received such notices, would not be required to appear before the officials at the polling stations. “I have instructed officials not to insist on senior citizens and persons with disabilities visiting the booths. Instead, the officials can visit them or carry out the inquiries over phone,” he said.

The district administration has conducted special camps on the last weekend of December at the polling stations for receiving the applications for inclusions and corrections in the relevant forms. Similar camps would be held on January 3 and 4 in all polling stations.

“Facilitation counters are being set up for issuing nativity certificates for those requiring it at the polling station itself. They can get the certificates by producing their Aadhaar cards,” Mr. Saravanan said.

Although about 3.31 lakh names were deleted from the voters list in Tiruchi district following the enumeration conducted under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, there has not been many claims or objections so far, sources in the district administration said. “The list of absent, shifted, and dead voters are being reviewed by the agents of political parties. So far, we have not received any objections,” the sources added.
