Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi on Tuesday (December 30, 2025) said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) based traffic management and criminal identification system is likely to be introduced in the city from April 2026, with pilot projects already underway.
He said that the system will use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to automatically generate e-challans for traffic violations, assist in traffic management, apart from alerting the control room by identifying criminals through data retrieved from the database. He said that the AI-driven traffic management system plan also includes synchronising the traffic signals in the city to allow free flow of traffic.
The CP said that during this year alone, as many as 13,284 CCTVs were installed in the city through community initiative. This is the highest number of CCTVs installed in any district of Andhra Pradesh during this period.
