AIADMK functionaries staged a protest in Madurai on Friday condemning the TVK-led State government for ‘failing’ to fully waive crop loans for farmers. They also criticised the State government for its handling of the Mekedatu issue.
The protest was led by AIADMK leaders Sellur K. Raju, R.B. Udhayakumar and V.V. Rajan Chellappa.
They said the TVK-led government had failed to fulfil the poll promises made to the people, particularly, the farmers. The government had failed to fully waive crop loans for farmers. The farmers suffered crop loss. The State government has betrayed the farmers, they said.
They criticised the government for its handling of the Mededatu issue. The government should take necessary steps to prevent Karnataka from proceeding with the construction of the Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery river, they said.
They also criticised the government for not securing the State’s share of Cauvery water. They urged the government to ensure that the State should get its rightful share of Cauvery water.
