The AICTE IDEA (Idea Development, Evaluation and Application) Laboratory was inaugurated at Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology (AIET), at Mijar near Moodbidri on Wednesday.
The opening of laboratory will strengthen experiential learning of students, a release from Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri which manages the college said.
The laboratory is a flagship initiative of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) aimed at transforming engineering education from conventional theoretical instruction to a ‘learning by doing’ culture. The laboratory is designed as a centralised facility within technical institutions where students and faculty can experiment, design, and develop solutions to real-world problems.
The IDEA Laboratory at the college is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including a CO₂ laser cutting machine for acrylic fabrication and prototyping, a CNC router for wooden engraving and 3D carving, 3D printing, sublimation systems, and a Surface Mount Technology (SMT) setup used in manufacturing LED lights, integrated circuits, connectors, and CCTV camera components.
The laboratory has been partly funded by AICTE, with additional support from the CSR fund of BETA CAE Systems and contributions from the foundation.
According to Vivek Alva, management trustee of the foundation, research products emerging from the laboratory are expected to evolve into successful enterprises in the future, offering meaningful solutions to society.
Stavros Kleidarias, Sales Group Director, BETA CAE Systems India Pvt. Ltd. and M. Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, were present.
