Condemning the BJP-led Union government’s “anti-farmer” policies, its failure to implement the M.S. Swaminathan Commission recommendations on minimum support price and the decision to exempt import duty on cotton, the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) will stage a protest in Delhi on Wednesday.

AIKS national president Rajan Kshirsagar, addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi recently, said that the Modi-led government has failed to implement the minimum support price assurances given during the withdrawal of the farmers protest in Delhi five years ago.

He noted that farmers across 12 States have suffered massive crop losses this year due to erratic rainfall, yet the Centre has failed to release NDRF grants to support the distressed farming community.

Mr. Kshirsagar also accused the State government of amending the Disaster Management Act 2025 to avoid responsibility by replacing the term compensation with relief, thereby weakening mandatory support to disaster-hit farmers.

Mr. Kshirsagar accused the government of favouring corporate players promoting hybrid seeds, replacing traditional varieties.

He confirmed that the AIKS will go ahead with nationwide demonstrations on Wednesday, marking five years since the Delhi farmers agitation, and demanding accountability from the Modi-led Central government.

Responding to a question, he emphasised that the district administrations must initiate legal action against sugar factory authorities if they fail to pay farmers the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) fixed for a tonne of sugarcane.
