Dakshina Kannada District Police on Wednesday, December 31, launched the Akka Pade, a special team to ensure the safety of women and children, after the scheme was formally launched in the district.

Superintendent of Police K. Arun launched the vehicle designated for the Akka Pade on the occasion. The Akka Pade scheme is being jointly implemented by the Department of Women and Child Development and the police departments.

According to an official release, the Akka Pade scheme is being implemented across all 31 districts of Karnataka. Each team comprises five women home guards dedicated to providing immediate assistance to women and children in distress.

The team will work in two shifts, i.e., from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., every day. The Pade will be deployed near educational institutions, bus and railway stations, girls’ and women’s hostels, tourist attractions, religious places and other vulnerable locations.
