A 26-year-old employee of a private firm has been arrested for attempting to rob a bank in Postal Colony with the burglary bid foiled after the alarm system was triggered. The police said he had learnt the method by watching online videos and resorted to the crime to overcome family debts.
The incident occurred around midnight on March 7 at a bank on Postal Colony Second Street in West Mambalam. The police said the accused, wearing a mask, cut open the shutter lock using a machine and entered the premises. He then attempted to break open a locker containing jewellery and cash. However, the alarm went off, forcing him to abandon the attempt. In frustration, he allegedly tore up important documents before fleeing. Following a complaint from the bank administration, Ashok Nagar police formed a special team and examined over 50 CCTV footage clips.
