The Karnataka State Pre-University College Lecturers’ Association has urged the State government to allow eligible candidates from the Kalyana Karnataka region to apply for Residual Parent Cadre (RPC) posts along with posts reserved for the Kalyana Karnataka region in the direct recruitment of Group-A principals.
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has invited applications for 247 Group-A principal posts, of which 216 are under RPC (Non-Kalyana Karnataka) and 31 posts under the Kalyana Karnataka Local Cadre, the association said.
Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday, association district president N.T. Rangoli said the KEA invited applications on September 7 from eligible lecturers working under the School Education Department (PU) for direct recruitment to Group-A principal posts.
He said candidates from Kalyana Karnataka were currently allowed to apply only for the 31 posts under the Kalyana-Karnataka Local Cadre and were not being allowed to apply for the 216 RPC posts. This was causing difficulty for eligible candidates from the region, he said.
Mr. Rangoli said candidates from Kalyana Karnataka had special reservation benefits under Article 371(J) of the Constitution. Therefore, they should also be allowed to apply for RPC posts, provided they meet the eligibility, service and recruitment rules, he said.
He said candidates should not be denied the opportunity to compete for RPC posts simply because they were eligible for reservation under Article 371(J).
Mr. Rangoli also appealed to the KEA to extend the last date for submitting applications. He said candidates had to obtain a Kalyana Karnataka resident certificate and an income certificate in Form-H from the Revenue Department, which could take 15 to 20 days.
He urged the KEA and the concerned department to take necessary steps so that no eligible candidate from the Kalyana Karnataka region was deprived of an opportunity to apply for the posts.
