The five-day Alvas Nudisiri Virasat, a literary and cultural festival, will be held on the Alvas College campus in Moodibidri from January 6 to 10.

Talking to reporters on Thursday, chairman of Alvas Education Foundation M. Mohan Alva said this was the third successive year that the foundation was holding the event by combining the literary event Alvas Nudisiri and cultural event Alvas Virasat.

Alvas Virasat will be inaugurated on January 6 evening by the pulling of a cultural rath in the midst of chanting of Vedas and singing of bhajans. Two artists, who have contributed to classical music and folk music respectively, will be presented with the Alvas Virasat awards. Every evening from January 6 to 10, there will be cultural programmes by upcoming artists between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Musicians will also present ‘Morning ragas’ and perform on different stages of the Nudisiri event.

Alvas Nudisiri will be held between January 7 and 9 on the theme “Kannadada Manassu; Bhavishayada Kanasu”. Writer Narahalli Subrahmanya will chair the literary event and Vishweshwar Bhat, Editor, Vishwavani, a Kannada daily, will inaugurate it.

As part of Nudisiri, a “Hasiru Samvaada” event will be held on January 6 and 7. It will focus on activities being taken up in 50 villages in the region to prevent plastics and other pollutants from entering the Gurupura, Nandini and Shambhavi rivers. As many as 5,000 Scouts and Guides from across the State will take part in a State-level Scouts and Guides Jamboree.
