The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) on Tuesday issued an order mandating expansion of pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras at industries in the National Capital Region (NCR) to ensure comprehensive real-time monitoring of fuel consumption.

PTZ cameras can pan horizontally (from left to right), tilt vertically (up and down) and zoom.

“In view of the persistent use of unapproved fuels, the Commission has expanded the areas to be captured by PTZ cameras at industrial units to make the coverage comprehensive and for effective monitoring and compliance. Apart from the locations of PTZ cameras already prescribed by CPCB, the Commission has directed that industries shall now also install additional PTZ cameras by 31.10.2026, as per the following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP),” the CAQM said in a statement.

According to the statement, cameras will be installed to provide complete coverage of all fuel storage areas, all fuel charging/feeding points, and a clear view of the gas meter/gauge if gas-based fuel is utilised.

The CAQM has also mandated the Central Pollution Control Board and respective State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) or the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to develop online portals and other necessary infrastructure to capture the real-time streaming of video feeds to facilitate remote monitoring of fuel-use practices by industries, it added.

The CAQM has asked the SPCBs and DPCC to submit the status of implementation of the measures by November 1.
