Poll campaign for the municipal polls is set to gain momentum with the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy launching the party’s election campaign from Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district on Wednesday even as the party leaders made a last minute dash to pacify the rebels to withdraw from the fray.
Today was the last day for submission of B. Forms by the official party candidates to the returning officers. Apart from the Congress, the BRS and BJP leaders too are fine tuning their campaign with the saffron party making a head start with its top leaders already in the campaign mode.
Chief Minister held a review meeting with the in-charge Ministers, TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud and AICC in-charge Meenaskhi Natarajan at his residence this evening. Sources said the meeting discussed the party’s prospects and the strategy to be adopted to win maximum number of municipalities and corporations. The meeting is understood to have discussed on pacifying the rebel candidates to improve the prospects of the official candidates.
According to information, Mr. Revanth Reddy will arrive in Miryalaguda tomorrow afternoon and lay the foundation for the Young India Integrated Residential School, which is being established with an investment of ₹200 crore. Later, he will distribute cheques to women’s self‑help groups and address a public meeting thereafter.
Union Ministers Bandi Sanjay was visibly pro-actively undertaking whirlwind tour of the Karimnagar municipal corporation wards in support of the party candidates. The Congress Ministers too jumped into the race by undertaking door-to-door campaign in the municipalities and municipal corporations.
The Congress is bogged down by internal bickering among the leaders in some districts. The long simmering rivalry between leaders loyal to the senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy and the Jagtial MLA Dr M. Sanjay Kumar has further intensified ahead of the municipal elections to the Jagtial municipality slated for February 11. The latest trigger that exacerbated the ruling party’s internal rift in Jagtial is over the selection of candidates for the ensuing civic poll to Jagtial municipality. In the same municipality, some loyal BJP cadres too found fault with the leadership for ignoring their claims for ticket and selecting outsiders and people, who had crossed over from other parties.
Party sources said the Congress leaders is facing tough time in Gadwal municipality where the defeated Congress MLA candidate Saritha Tirutpathaiah’s group is opposing the importance being given to BRS MLA Krishnamohan Reddy, who had defected to the Congress party. In Jangaon municipality too, there are differences among Congress leader Kommuri Pratap Reddy and old timers.
In the meantime, the AIMIM has fielded candidates in several municipalities where the minority community can tilt results. It is to be seen how the presence of these candidates will turn the outcome.
In a related development, Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao has asked the party ranks, district presidents, municipal coordinators and assembly constituency in-charges to work hard for the next one week to ensure huge success of the party candidates in the municipal elections.
