The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to revive the Nandi Film and Television Awards, with award ceremonies for different years planned to be completed by December 2026.
A.P. State Film, Television, and Theatre Development Corporation (APFDC/APSFT&TDC) Chairman P. Bharat Bhushan and Managing Director K. Viswanathan announced the decision at a press conference in Vijayawada on Tuesday (September 22, 2026).
Mr. Bhushan said it was decided to present the previously announced Nandi Film and Television Awards for the years 2012 to 2016, while the government was also taking steps to honour talent in the film and television sectors and promote the State’s cultural heritage.
For the years 2017 to 2024, the government had decided to present four awards each year—two Production Awards and two Special Jury Awards—in the Film and Television categories. The Nandi Film and Television Awards for 2025 will also be presented, he said.
He said the Nandi Film Awards and National Film Awards will be presented at a ceremony proposed to be held either in Amaravati or Vijayawada, while the Nandi Television Awards will be held in Tirupati. The government has set December 2026 as the deadline for completing all the award ceremonies, he stated.
Mr. Bhushan said the award committees were expected to be constituted in October, followed by the selection process in November and the event was scheduled to take place in December.
The Nandi Film Awards will cover 46 categories, including feature films, films promoting national integration, children’s films, documentary films, educational films and best writings on telugu cinema. Major honours include Best Feature Film, Second and Third Best Feature Films, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
Awardees will receive gold, silver, bronze or copper Nandi statuettes, along with citations and cash prizes. Eight gold medals will also be presented in various categories.
The National Film Awards will include the NTR National Film Award, carrying a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, while the B. N. Reddy National Film Award, Nagi Reddy–Chakrapani National Film Award and Raghupathi Venkaiah Film Award will each carry ₹2 lakh. Recipients will also receive commemorative mementoes and citations.
The Nandi Television Awards will cover 48 categories, including telefilms, TV features, mega serials, daily serials, children’s films, documentary films and programmes based on social issues and education. Awards will also recognise actors, actresses, supporting actors, comedians, villains, child artistes, directors and screenplay writers.
Similarly, television award recipients will receive Nandi statuettes, citations and cash prizes, the officials said.
