A clutch of gig workers unions covering those associated with ride hailing aggregators, including autorickshaws, on Tuesday announced an ‘All India Breakdown’ on Saturday (February 7, 2026) which will entail workers going off the roads for at least six hours.
The move, jointly organised by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union, Indian Labour Welfare Federation, All India Transport Union Congress, among others, aims to draw attention to what they alleged was the government’s inaction to address fare exploitation by app-based aggregator platforms.
The unions claimed that aggregators fixed fares arbitrarily, which has led to workers facing hardships and unsustainable working conditions. They said that this was against the spirit of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines
The unions demanded that minimum base fares across app-based transport services be notified both at the Union and and State Government level. They reiterated a long-standing demand of better enforcing the existing policy on prohibition of non-commercial vehicles for commercial activity, including taxis.
