Several from the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Tamil Nadu chapter, participated in a heritage walk covering the historic Ripon Building and Victoria Public Hall here on Saturday.
The walk focused on the architectural features and heritage significance of the two historical landmarks.
Nearly 100 people took part in the guided heritage walk hosted by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).
The curators engaged by the GCC for such guided walks took the participants around the Ripon Building, which serves as an example of neo-classical architecture and colonial-era heritage.
The participants learnt historical facts about the structure, which was designed by G.S.T. Harris and built by P. Loganatha Mudaliar.
At the Victoria Public Hall, they learnt about Chennai’s mobility history through tram models and notable personalities who visited the hall.
Such guided walks are organised every Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the curators said.
The walk was followed by triune celebrations of IIA, Tamil Nadu Chapter, wherein enterprising architects and IIA members were awarded for their work. Alok Decruz, managing partner, Morphogenesis, made a presentation on various architectural projects, IIA members said.
