Tamil Nadu Assembly Estimates Committee would recommend to Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, for afforestation initiatives to be taken up in dead mines and lands belonging to various dyfunction factories to fight adverse effects of climate change.
The panel Chairman, S. Gandhirajan, representing Vedasandur Assembly constituency, appreciated Ramco Cements in its greening efforts of 400 acres of dead mine in Pandalgudi.
“We were all happy at the efforts of turning the quarried site ecological park,” he said.
Only such initiatives will help to fight the adverse effects of climate change.
Not only the dead mines, but also the large parcels of land belonging to dyfunct sugarmills and other factories too could be used for afforestation programme, he said.
The panel also inspected a bridge constructed across Arjuna river in Kanniseri under Nabard and Rural Roads Schemes at a cost of ₹7 crore.
The committee members also inspected the STEM park being constructed in Virudhunagar at a cost of ₹4 crore and the daily market under construction at a cost of ₹7.57 crore in Aruppukottai.
Assembly Principal Secretary Srinivasan, District Revenue Officer R. Anandhi and members of the committee were present.
