The Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Atal–Modi Suparipalana Yatra’ received an overwhelming response from people across Andhra Pradesh, said party State president P.V.N. Madhav on Wednesday.

Addressing the media here, Mr. Madhav said the yatra helped people, especially the younger generation, understand the values, vision and contributions of the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Mr. Madhav said people expressed happiness after seeing the statues of Vajpayee installed as part of the yatra. Vajpayee’s commitment to democratic values, good governance and national development continue to inspire the present and future generations, he said, adding that many were surprised to learn about the scale of Vajpayee’s contributions to the nation.

Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled States, Union Ministers and State Ministers participated in the yatra, paying rich tributes to Vajpayee’s service and sacrifices for the country.

Mr. Madhav announced that on December 25, marking Vajpayee’s birth centenary, the ‘Atal Smriti Vanam’ and a grand statue of Vajpayee would be inaugurated in Amaravati. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other dignitaries would attend.

When asked about report that Mr. Naidu and HRD Minister N. Lokesh were probable candidates for the Prime Minister post, he said, “It’s a WhatsAspp University news.”  When pointed out that it was a prediction by Reuters, he said, “News agencies have highs and lows. There is nothing to react.”

To a question whether YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan  Reddy was invited for the Vajpayee statue unveiling programme, he said, “It is a NDA programme.” BJP spokesperson Sheikh Baji and others were present.
