Autorickshaw driver found dead in open sewage drain near Ambattur lake

An autorickshaw driver was found dead in an open drain filled with sewage water near the Ambattur lake bund in Ayappakkam.

The 108 ambulance service received information that a person had fallen into an open drain and was lying unconscious in the sewage. A 108 ambulance team rushed to the spot and found the man trapped inside the drain. The team immediately alerted the Ayappakkam police and the Ambattur fire station.

Before the police and firefighters could reach the spot, the 108 ambulance driver and an employee entered the sewage-filled drain and rescued the man. They attempted to provide first aid but found that he had already died.

The incident caused heavy traffic congestion on Ayappakkam-Thiruverkadu-Ambattur Road. The police who arrived at the spot conducted an inquiry and identified the deceased as Mani, 36, an autorickshaw driver from Ayappakkam. His body was recovered and sent to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The Ayappakkam police have registered a case and are investigating whether Mani accidentally fell into the drain and died or whether there was another reason for his death.
