Bengaluru: South city commissioner urges organisations to study urban conditions and design gaps as residents flag civic issues

Highlighting the need for evidence-based urban planning to address growing civic challenges, Bengaluru South Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh said private organisations could be encouraged to take in-depth studies of the city’s current urban conditions and design gaps. He said college students could be encouraged to study urban planning and design and submit practical suggestions.

The commissioner was speaking at a meeting with office bearers of apartment associations and resident welfare associations from the Jayanagar zone, held to discuss civic grievances faced by the residents.

Residents raised concerns regarding unauthorised construction, maintenance of public toilets, e-khata-related problems, and garbage management issues, among other issues.

While discussing solid waste management, the commissioner said several non-governmental organisations had already studied waste-related issues within the city limits and offered recommendations. He said that close coordination between the corporation and citizens would lead to effective implementation and that garbage kiosks should function in partnership with the private sector to ensure efficient management without creating any black spots.
