Bengaluru: Tree park inaugurated in Panathur

A 45-acre tree park at Panathur was inaugurated on Wednesday (September 16) by Environment Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

The park has been developed on a plot of land belonging to the Forest Department, which in total owns 145 acres in Panathur village, Varthur Hobli.

The tree park has been developed under the Forest Department’s Urban Forest Scheme with the support of CSR funds from Qualcomm India Pvt. Ltd. and in collaboration with the NGO SayTrees.

The park has been developed at a cost of ₹4.5 crore through CSR funding.

Mr. Reddy said that the additional CSR contribution of ₹1 crore should be utilised for constructing a compound wall around the area.

He said that efforts should be undertaken to increase the green cover as the locality where the tree park has come up is home to various species of trees, plants, animals and birds.

At the park, a 2-km eco-trail has been developed along with an open gym, children’s play area, toilets, vehicle parking area, and gazebos.

“As already announced by the Chief Minister, there are plans to develop four more large parks, apart from Lalbagh and Cubbon Park, at different locations across the city,” Mr. Reddy said.

He added that the main objective of the project is to provide an environment with increased green cover for people living in urban areas, promote environmental conservation, and provide healthy recreational facilities to the public.
