There are around 94,376 registered ex-servicemen in Karnataka of which a majority of them are living in Bengaluru Urban district.
As per information given by the Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth in a reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing winter session of Parliament, there are 31,999 registered ex-servicemen from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force residing in Bengaluru Urban district as of June 30, 2025. Yadgir with 66 people is the district with the least number of registered ex-servicemen.
As per data, of the 31,999 ex-servicemen around 21,742 are former Army personnel, 1,691 are former Navy personnel and 8,566 are former Air Force personnel.
The district with the second highest number of ex-servicemen is Belagavi, with 22,869 followed by Kodagu with 4,578 ex-servicemen, Dharwad with 3,440 ex-servicemen, Mysuru with 3,413 ex-servicemen, and Bagalkot with 3,262 ex-servicemen.
Of the 94,376 registered ex-servicemen residing in the State, 78,633 are from the Army, 3,133 from the Navy, and 12,610 from the Air Force.
In Chickballapur district there are no ex-Navy personnel while in Yadgir district there is only one ex-Air Force personnel.
The Minister to a question on whether any region-specific skilling and entrepreneurship support has been provided under the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) said that the DGR runs resettlement schemes and skill development training for ex-servicemen, disabled soldiers, widows and their dependents to provide job opportunities based on the region-specific skilling/entrepreneurships facilities as well as the demand.
Further, courses have been conducted for the ex-servicemen in Bengaluru by the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) and Indian Institute of Management in 2024-25 and 2025-26, training 240 ex-servicemen.
Eight courses were conducted in the NIESBUD during this period, training 160 personnel in the Entrepreneurship Development Programme. The IIM also conducted two courses during this period, training 80 personnel in certificate courses in Business Management.
