The Bidadi police have registered an FIR against a group of protesters for allegedly staging an unauthorised demonstration at Byramangala against the Bidadi Township project and disrupting traffic and normal public life.
Based on a complaint filed by Devaraj, PSI, the police have booked the protesters under Sections 126(2), (wrongful restraint.) 54 ( abetment ) and 190 ( unlawful assembly) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.
According to the complaint, the accused, including Girish, Chetan, Chandrashekar, Shivrudrappa, Veeresh, Puttaswamy, Bhairappa, Krishnappa, Nagaraju, Jayamma, Jayalakshmi, Shwetha, Bhagya and Netha, along with others, allegedly staged an unauthorised protest at Bairamangal Circle.
The protesters allegedly placed chairs on the road, sat and lay down on the carriageway, and parked tractors and bullock carts across the road. They also allegedly tied cattle on the road, obstructing the movement of vehicles.
The protest reportedly began around 10 a.m. on September 21 and continued on September 22, 23, 24 and 25.
The Bidadi-Harohalli road is part of State Highway 265 and passes through an industrial area. Police said the road blockade caused inconvenience to the public, schoolchildren, employees and goods transport vehicles.
The protesters also allegedly encouraged other women and members of the public to join the agitation
The protest began around 10 a.m. on September 21 without obtaining the required permission. The demonstration reportedly continued for five consecutive days, from September 21 to 25, with a large number of people participating.
The protesters allegedly gathered along the road leading towards Bairamangala and raised various demands concerning the Bidadi Township project. Police said the demonstration affected vehicular movement and caused inconvenience to the public and disruption to normal daily activities in the area.
The police report names several individuals in connection with the alleged unauthorised protest and related activities. Police said further investigation was under way to establish the role of those named in the complaint and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged disruption.
Police officials said appropriate legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
DKS reacts
Reacting to the road blocking incident, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said, “Blocking a road causes inconvenience to the public. We are not putting pressure on anyone to give their land. Those who need money to build their lives will give their land, while those who do not want to give it need not.”
On the other hand, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy questioned why the police intervened after five days of protest. “The farmers had been observing a hunger strike at the same place for five days and no action was taken. Why did they intervene on the fifth day,” he questioned.
