The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday organised a meeting of its core committee in Chennai to discuss the roadmap for the 2026 Assembly election.
This was the party’s first meeting after its State president Nainar Nagenthran and former State president K. Annamalai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah separately in New Delhi earlier this month. The meeting was held at a private hotel in Guindy, and was attended by senior BJP leaders.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Mr. Nagenthran said the National Democratic Alliance remained strong, and was ready to face the election at any time. He said his State-wide tour would conclude on January 9, 2026. Either Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the Union Home Minister would participate in a public meeting on that day, he said.
According to BJP sources, the leaders discussed the roadmap for next year’s Assembly election, adoption of micro-level strategies at the booth level, and coordination with alliance partners for carrying out election-related activities.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, who was recently appointed the party’s Tamil Nadu in-charge for the 2026 Assembly election, is likely to visit the State next week. BJP sources said he is expected to hold discussions with the top leadership of the party’s Tamil Nadu unit. The Union Minister is also likely to meet AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
