BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Sunday (October 4, 2026) condemned the intimidation of a journalist by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadres at Dharapuram in Tiruppur district, after he shot visuals of some of them reportedly falling at the feet of Minister and TVK general secretary N. Anand.
In a social media post, Mr. Nagenthran said the journalist was threatened and his mobile phone was taken away after he recorded visuals of party functionaries falling at the feet of Mr. Anand. The BJP leader further alleged that the videos were forcibly deleted from the device, calling it an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy.
Describing the incident as an attack on press freedom, Mr. Nagenthran said it reflected growing intolerance towards the media. He also criticised the police, alleging the incident took place in their presence, but that they failed to intervene.
