Terming the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill 2025 as anti-Constitutional, members of the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest in Yadgir on Wednesday.
Addressing the protestors, president of the district unit Basavaraj Vibhutihalli said that the Bill is against the basic tenets of the Constitution.
He said that the State government will use the law to prevent Opposition parties, journalists and also the public from commenting on its administration and also, airing public grievances.
“If Opposition parties and journalists criticise the government on its governance, they will possibly be punished under the new Bill, considering such criticism as hate speech,” he said.
The other speakers said that discussions on social media on any government issues will be prevented by the new Bill and demanded that it should be revoked.
BJP leaders Rachanagouda Mudnal, Mahesh Mudnal, Devendra Nath Nad, Parashuram Tumkut, Venkatareddy Abbetumkur and others took part in the protest.
