BJP urges govt. employees to vote against Cong. over dues

The Telangana BJP gave a clarion call to all government employees, both serving and retired, urging them to express their resentment against the Congress government by casting a decisive vote in the upcoming municipal elections. The party accused the government of failing to resolve long pending employee issues.

Party president and former MLC N. Ramchander Rao said that government employees have the power to alter political equations in Telangana. He highlighted the long-pending payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) instalments and retirement benefits.

Speaking at a protest organised by the party at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, on Tuesday, where he was joined by senior leaders, including Rajya Sabha member K. Laxman, Mr. Rao said that Telangana is the only State in the country with five pending DA instalments, and retirement benefits worth over ₹2,000 crore were yet to be released.

He pointed out that Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka had assured in March last year that the government would release ₹700 crore every month and clear all pending employee bills within a year, a promise that remains ‘unfulfilled’.

The prolonged delay in clearing retirement dues has caused severe financial and emotional distress to employees, retirees, and pensioners families, Mr. Rao said, further alleging that several retired employees had died due to stress arising from these unresolved payments.

Recalling the promises made during the Telangana statehood movement “water, funds, and jobs”, he said even employees who had completed their service were now being denied basic retirement benefits. He noted that arrears related to the Pay Revision Commission (PRC), gratuity, commutation, GPF, and leave encashment remained unpaid.

Mr. Rao also accused the government of failing to honour its commitment to provide unemployment allowance, and pointed to recruitment-related controversies involving the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC). He highlighted the plight of job aspirants who continue to invest heavily in coaching without certainty of recruitment.

Calling on retired employees to voice their protest through democratic means in the upcoming elections, Mr. Rao appealed to unemployed youth, serving staff, retirees, and pensioners to support the BJP’s movement. He reiterated that the party would continue its agitation to safeguard employee rights across Telangana.

Legislature Party leader A. Maheshwar Reddy demanded that the government release a clear timetable for clearing pending employee arrears. He alleged that contractor bills were being prioritised for “pecuniary reasons” while employee dues remained unpaid.
