Tenkasi district BJP president Ananthan Ayyasamy on Monday submitted two petitions with Collector Ranjeet Singh.
In the first petition, Mr. Ananthan sought the district administration’s immediate intervention to protect the livelihoods of over 1,300 families dependent on nearly 30 traditional brick kilns at Kandattaikaperi in Sankarankovil Taluk.
He said environmental compliance should be secured through a fair and practical approach, with reasonable duration for kilns to meet regulatory norms, rather than through abrupt disconnection of electricity that would halt the only source of income for hundreds of daily-wage families.
The second petition sought permission for farmers of Therku Sathiram to desilt and strengthen the bund of Vaeppankulam Kanmai. Though the tank belonged to Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam, the farmers had come forward to bear the entire cost of restoration and seek only necessary approval from the district administration to revive the vital irrigation and groundwater source.
When Mr. Ananthan raised the long-pending restoration of Shenbagavalli weir in the Western Ghats, the Collector informed him that the matter had been placed before the Chief Minister at the recent Collectors’ Conference and was under consideration.
Seeking action against a teacher, who reportedly beat a group of students for allegedly creating noise in the school during working hours, a parent submitted a petition to the Collector.
When class 10 students of Veerakeralampudur Government Higher Secondary School were talking loudly and creating noise during working hours and disturbing the functioning of other classes, one of the teachers shouted at them. As the students again made noise after the teacher left the spot, she allegedly beat them with a cane. A few students reportedly suffered injuries. As the parent of one of the students filed a complaint with the Veerakeralampudur police, investigation is under way.
Demanding immediate action against the teacher, Rajathi, mother of the student, submitted a petition with the Collector on Monday.
