A Block Educational Officer (BEO) of Tiruchi Urban holding additional charge of Vaiyampatti was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) on Monday on charges of demanding and obtaining bribe from a government elementary schoolteacher.
The action was taken by the DVAC on a complaint preferred by Vimala — a government teacher of Manapparai.
Block Educational Officer Latha Baby, 54, had allegedly demanded ₹1,500 as bribe from the teacher for issuing a non-payment certificate to enable the latter to get her four days salary that was not paid to her in July following her transfer to another school.
Vimala preferred a complaint with the DVAC, Tiruchi unit, and a case was registered. The DVAC team caught the Block Educational Officer when she obtained the bribe money from the teacher in her office here, the release added.
