Classes were disrupted across several schools in Ahmedabad on Friday (January 23, 2026) after anonymous emails warning of bomb blasts were received by multiple educational institutions, prompting emergency searches by police and bomb disposal teams. Officials later confirmed that all the threats were hoaxes.
Police said close to a dozen schools received the emails during the morning hours, triggering precautionary closures and evacuation of students as security agencies carried out detailed inspections of the premises. No suspicious objects were found at any of the locations.
Among the schools that received the emails were Delhi Public School, Army School, and Mahatma Gandhi International School. The messages reportedly warned schools against hoisting the national flag on Republic Day and contained references to ‘Khalistan,’ while naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as ‘enemies of Khalistan.’
According to police, bomb detection and disposal squads were deployed to all affected institutions. “Extensive searches were conducted and the threats were found to be hoaxes,” they said.
The emails created panic among school authorities and parents, with schools informing police immediately and sending students home as a precautionary measure. Several parents rushed to campuses to pick up their children amid the uncertainty.
Parents angered
Police said the city cybercrime branch will register a case and investigate the origin of the emails. According to officials, the messages mentioned a specific time that is 1.11 p.m. for the alleged blast. “Modi-Shah are enemies of Khalistan… Save your children. Do not raise the Indian ‘tiranga’ in schools on January 26. Khalistan-Bangladesh zindabad,” the email said.
Parents expressed anger over the repeated hoax threats targeting schools in the city.
