Bonded Labour Abolition Day was observed in Thoothukudi on Monday, with District Collector K. Elambahavath administering an oath to government staff.
After the oath-taking event, Mr. Elambahavath inaugurated a signature campaign for the abolition of bonded labour, and distributed awareness pamphlets to the staff and general public. Awareness posters were also pasted on campaign vehicles and autorickshaws, which were flagged off by the Collector.
The awareness pamphlets were also distributed at places where public congregated in large numbers and posters were pasted in shops and restaurants.
The public were informed that complaints related to bonded labour could be reported through toll-free helpline number 1800 4252 650.
