Awareness on women’s safety
Government Arts and Science College, Kumulur, Lalgudi, organised an awareness programme about women’s safety and the prevention of crimes against women recently.
Resource person B. Prathiba, Sub-Inspector of Police, Singapenn Special Force (SSF), explained the objectives and functions of the elite all-women police unit which has been established to prevent crimes against women in schools, colleges, educational campuses, railway stations, bus stands, and other public places. In her address, Ms. Pratibha highlighted the importance of protecting girl children, the Singapenn helpline, the Kaaval Uthavi App, cyber safety, the risks associated with mobile phone usage, and the responsible use of social media platforms. Association meeting
K. Ramesh Kumar, associate professor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tiruchi, focused on the importance of professional competence, communication skills, and career readiness in today’s competitive world during the inauguration of the ‘Wisdom Association – 2026’ by the Department of Commerce (Professional Accounting), Arasu College of Arts and Science for Women, Mannmangalam recently. Recruitment practice
Final-year students of Arasu Engineering College, Kumbakonam, were given orientation on preparing for campus recruitment at a programme organised by the institution’s Department of English, in association with the Training and Placement Cell recently. Resource person R. Senguttuvan, head and associate professor of English, highlighted methods for interviews, group discussions, presentations, and workplace conversations, spurring students to cultivate self-belief and elevate their employability.
Tamil translation workshop
The need for multilingual competency was stressed at a three-day workshop on enhancing Tamil translation skills organised by the Department of Tamil at AVC College, Mannampandal, near Mayiladuthurai, in collaboration with the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, recently. P. Manimaran, Professor, Department of Linguistics, Annamalai University, delivered a special lecture on “Ethics in Translation Policies”, focusing on the translator’s neutrality, ethical responsibility, and the role of translation in fostering the exchange of ideas across languages.
S. Murugan, Head, Department of Translation Studies, Tamil University, conducted a session on “Technical Term Translation: Challenges and Solutions”. S. Kavitha, professor, Department of Indian Languages and Comparative Literature, Tamil University, addressed the participants on the challenges involved in translating literary works and the possible approaches to overcoming them.
Book launch
A special programme was held to launch and introduce the motivational Tamil book Maanavane, Maanavane, Nee Thalaivan Aaganum on behalf of the Maruthupandiyar Institutions (MI) in Thanjavur recently. The first copy of the book was released by MI founder K. Maruthu Pandian. In his address, Swami Vimurthananda, Adhyakshya, Ramakrishna Math, Thanjavur, highlighted the importance of students working towards developing high ideals, self-confidence, discipline and leadership qualities. Principal M. Vijaya, and Prof. Manimaran, Tamil scholar, Saraswathi Mahal Library, spoke.

MoU signed
Mother Terasa College of Engineering and Technology, functioning under the Mother Terasa Group of Educational Institutions (MTGEI), Mettusalai, Pudukkottai district, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabian company Muneer Ibn Fawaz Engineering Consultancy, to provide career opportunities, internship programmes, and industrial training to students. In turn, employees of Muneer Ibn Fawaz Engineering Consultancy would benefit from the technical expertise and professional knowledge imparted by the college’s faculty members. The MoU was signed by MTGEI chairman R. C. Uthayakumar, founder of the Saudi company, Muneer Ibn Fawaz, on June 29.
