Being customer-centric, problem solving, and ethical innovation should be your guiding principles,” said Krishna Balagurunathan, chief mentor and associate vice-president – Early Careers, Hexaware Technologies, Chennai, delivering the convocation address at SRM TRP Engineering College. Yoga champion

S. Abarna Sree, a third-year B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics student at Cauvery College for Women, Tiruchi, came first in the State-level Yoga Championship organised by the Bharathiya Swami Vivekananda Yoga Sports Association, Tamil Nadu, recently. The championship was held on July 26 at Dindigul, and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 276 competitors representing various yoga institutes across Tamil Nadu. Ms. Abarna demonstrated exceptional flexibility, discipline, and dedication, earning the championship title through her outstanding performance.
Sensitisation programme
Ramya Sundaram, psychologist and wellness coach, Apollo Shine, spoke on the importance of gender equality, mutual respect, and dignified conduct in educational institutions, as part of a gender sensitisation programme organised by the Internal Complaint Cell (ICC), PG and Research Department of Computer Science, National College, recently. She familiarised the participants with the role, functions, and responsibilities of the ICC.
Sustainability summit
Three new centres of excellence (for Challenge-based Learning, Sustainability and Green Skills and Sustainable Logistics) were among the initiatives launched at TerraNova 2026, the annual sustainability summit of SRM Group of Institutions, Tiruchi, recently. Special invitee Prof. William Oakes, director, EPICS, Purdue University, U.S., interacted with faculty members and students. The programme witnessed the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Purdue EPICS Consortium, Eindhoven University of Technology Innovation Space (TU/e Innovation Space), and the Logistics Sector Skill Council, with SRM Group. SRM TRP Engineering College was honoured for winning the International Green Gown award 2025 in the Next Generation Learning and Skills category while SRM Tiruchi Arts and Science College was recognised as a finalist in the International Green Gown awards 2026 under the 2030 Climate Action category. Sustainability awards were presented to institutions, departments, faculty members, and students across the SRM Tiruchi campus.
Anti-drug awareness programme
S. Dhivya, of Sri Rathina Hospital, Karur, and S. Jayashree Senthil, executive director, Shree Renga Polyester, spoke on the ill-effects of drug abuse, the significance of mental and physical well-being, and the responsibility of today’s youth in building a drug-free society, during an awareness programme organised at Chettinad College of Engineering and Technology, Karur, recently.
Co-hosted by Rotaract Club of Chettinad Tech, in association with the National Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross (YRC), Red Ribbon Club (RRC), and Consumer Club and other social welfare clubs of the college, the programme was aimed at creating a drug-free campus and inspired students to uphold healthy values and responsible living. Research writing
Students of Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur, received guidance on research article writing during a two-day workshop hosted by The Raman Research Foundation (RRF), Tiruchi, in association with the college’s Research and Development Centre recently. The technical sessions were delivered by college principal K. Ravichandran, and secretary of RRF. In his address, Mr. Ravichandran spoke on research article writing, manuscript preparation, journal selection, publication ethics, plagiarism prevention, the peer-review process, and effective strategies for publishing in reputable journals.
Workshop on CPR
Over 100 students from the Department of Biotechnology, J.J. College of Arts and Science, Pudukottai, participated in an interactive workshop on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), conducted by Sudharsanan Mohandass, consultant interventional cardiologist at Muthu Meenakshi Hospitals, as the chief resource person. Organised by the college’s Wilmut Club, the programme trained students on recognising early warning signs of cardiac emergencies, prompt activation of emergency services, correct techniques for chest compressions, and rescue breathing.
Safe driving in focus
Seminar, quiz, essay-writing, drawing and short film making competitions were held by the Road Safety Club at HH The Rajah’s College, Pudukkottai, to raise awareness about road safety recently. Students turned out in large numbers to participate in the contests. In her address, C. Geetha, the City Traffic Police Inspector, advised the students to follow road safety rules.
Snake awareness
Students of Good Shepherd School, Mannampandal, learned about the ecological importance of snakes and the need for their conservation at an awareness programme conducted by the Department of Zoology and Wildlife Biology, A.V.C. College to mark World Snake Day recently. As part of the programme, M.Sc. Wildlife Biology students taught the children about the role of snakes in maintaining ecological balance and preventive measures against snakebite, among other issues.
