Car gutted on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore

A moving car caught fire on the busy Avinashi Road between airport junction and Goldwins on Tuesday, causing traffic obstruction for a brief time. The incident occurred near a restaurant as the car was heading towards the airport junction around 8.30 a.m.

According to the Fire and Rescue Services, the person who drove the car pulled over after noticing smoke from the front of the vehicle. The driver and five other passengers immediately got out of the car, which went up in flames in a few minutes.

Thick smoke started billowing from the car and a team from the Peelamedu fire station reached the spot within six minutes, after being alerted by a witness. Fire brigades put out the flames in about 20 minutes, after which normal traffic resumed on the busy arterial road.

M. Muthukumarasamy, Station Officer, Peelamedu fire station, said the front portion of the car was completely destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
