Caught in a wave of unrest after cultural icon Zubeen Garg’s death, a central university in Assam’s Sonitpur district has rebooted for a controversy-free new academic session.

Garg died while swimming in the sea off an island in Singapore on September 19, 2025. His death, rather the alleged disrespect shown by Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh to the singer-composer, led to the unrest in Tezpur University, about 180 km northeast of Guwahati.
