The CB-CID police has formally taken over the investigation into the death of a teenaged boy in Madurai, following orders from the Director General of Police.

The 19-year-old K. Tamizhselvan, Koodal Pudur, Madurai, went missing last month. Consequently, on September 6, 2026, Tamizhselvan’s mother, Yogalakshmi, filed a missing person complaint at the Koodal Pudur Police Station after her son failed to return home.

A day later, on September 7, Tamizhselvan was found dead in a pond-like waterbody situated behind the sewage treatment plant in JJ Nagar, Madurai. Following the discovery, police initially registered a case under provisions related to a missing person turning fatal, and the probe was subsequently handled by the Sellur Crime Branch Police.

However, rejecting the initial findings, Yogalakshmi expressed suspicion over the circumstances of her son’s death, firmly maintaining that he had been murdered.

In light of the mother’s allegations and the gravity of the case, the Madurai Commissioner of Police S. Rajendiran recommended a higher-level probe. Acting on this recommendation, the Director General of Police issued formal orders transferring the investigation to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID).

According to an official communication issued by the Sellur Crime Police Station, the complete case dossier was transferred to the Chennai CB-CID wing on October 6 for a thorough and independent reinvestigation.
