The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Greater Chennai Police on Tuesday carried out searches at five locations, including houses of the aides of former Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, in the private school approval fraud case.
The CCB is investigating the case, which was registered based on a complaint alleging that money was collected from private school managements by promising to obtain government recognition and various statutory approvals for them.
On September 16, the CCB personnel searched the houses and offices belonging to Mr. Mahesh Poyyamozhi and his aides Valadi Karthik, Arun Prakash, and Prakash in Chennai and Tiruchi. Documents and electronic devices were seized during the searches and are being examined as part of the investigation.
The police also conducted searches at the houses and shops in Kallakurichi, which belong to Saravanan, Ramesh, and Gokulakrishnan, relatives of Muthukumar, who allegedly assisted in cheating private school managements and collecting money from them. More than 30 documents were seized during those searches.
Continuing the investigation, the CCB personnel on Tuesday conducted searches at five houses in Saligramam, Kodambakkam, Choolaimedu, Poonamallee, and Navalur in Chennai. The premises belonged to B.T. Arasakumar, another relative of Muthukumar and the aides of Mr. Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
The police seized 44 documents related to the case and one laptop during the searches. Further investigation is under way.
