The Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime police have arrested M. Abhishek, 23, of Katipalla for allegedly posting false news portraying the police in a bad light.
The police said that Abhishek, using his account “mr_a_titude”, posted the image of Hotel Nisarga on his Instagram account and wrote that the Bajpe police were treating a murder accused in a royal way by providing food prepared at Hotel Nisarga. The police personnel, who were supposed to protect people, have misused their authority to favour an accused, he wrote.
The Bajpe police registered a case against Abhishek for offences under Sections 353 (1), 353(2), 56 and 57 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The CEN police gathered technical evidence against Abhishek and arrested him on Thursday. He will be produced shortly before the jurisdictional magistarte.
The police said Abhishek was accused in four criminal cases, including that of murder, attempt to murder and dacoity, registered in Surathkal and Kaup stations.
