Centre supports development of Auroville as it reflects the ethos of Viksit Bharat, says Union Minister

The Union government has extended support towards development of Auroville as it reflects the ethos of Viksit Bharat propounded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi where “development was not measured only in economic indicators but also in cultural depth, intellectual vitality and inner growth,” Union Minister for Labour and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya said here on Saturday.

Speaking at the second edition of Auroville Literature Festival at Auroville, the Minister said under the leadership of Mr. Modi, the Central government recognised Auroville as a “living vision of the future,” and has actively supported its development.

“A truly developed nation balances progress with purpose, technology with thought, and growth with values. The Matrimandir in Auroville stands as a powerful symbol of inner progress and collective aspiration. As infrastructure expands and institutions evolve, it is essential that literature, dialogue and reflection remain the soul of Auroville. Because societies are not sustained by buildings alone, but by ideas, ethics and imagination,” the Minister said.

At a time when the world was witnessing growing divisions, shrinking attention spans, and declining spaces for dialogue, Auroville stands as a perfect example of ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’. The festival holds importance beyond literature as it speaks about India’s role as a civilisational bridge-builder, a nurturer of dialogue, and a voice for unity in diversity, the Minister said.

Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan and Jayanti S. Ravi, Secretary, Auroville Foundation, were present at the event.
