Chief Superintendent of Kalaburagi Central Prison transferred amid inquiry

The Chief Superintendent of Kalaburagi Central Prison, R. Anita, has been transferred to the Prison Staff Training Institute in Mysuru, amid an ongoing inquiry.

Karnataka’s Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services) Alok Kumar has transferred Ms. Anita to the Prison Staff Training Institute in Mysuru on special duty. K. Suresh, Chief Superintendent at the department’s headquarters in Bengaluru, has been deputed to hold additional charge of the post at Kalaburagi until further orders.

Recently, Kalaburagi Central Prison had been in the news following clashes among inmates, allegations of bribery against prison officials, and reports of prisoners being provided expensive liquor and cigarettes.

In view of these allegations, Mr. Kumar had ordered Additional Director General of Police, Prisons, P.V. Anand Reddy, to conduct a detailed investigation into the alleged irregularities.

Mr. Alok Kumar had visited the prison in the first week of January to review the situation.
